Church of St. Mina

Saint Mina Church is a wooden church, bringing on the lands of Dobruja (Dobrogea) the wonderful Romanian tradition of Maramures. The place was sanctified on 04th March 2006 and the construction began the following months. The wooden church started to be assembled on 1st of May 2007, on 1st of June 2007 being finished. On Sunday, 15th July 2007, the Consecration of Saint Mina Church and of Saint Pantaleon and Ermolae Church (located in the Municipal Hospital’s garden) service took place. The service was officiated by the Archbishop of Tomis, Teodosie. Part of the costs was covered by Mangalia Municipality. Other expenses were covered by: internal-financing, donations from Ministry of Culture and Cults, donations and sponsorships from firms, local and from all over the country, and, of course, donations from devoted Christians. At the wooden part of the church worked a team of nine skilled men from Maramures, led by Ion Pop from Baia Mare. The entire church was designed by architect Niels Auner. The works were done under the care of Cirlan Vasile and Cirlan Sorin priests, graduated from The Faculty of Orthodox Theology Bucharest. Wooden churches have as distinguishable features the woodworking’s joints and shingle roofing. This church follows the rigor encountered at the first monuments of this type. The church has a rectangular and simple, while the bell tower is 27 meters tall, above the narthex. This tower also has a watch tower and at the end there is an iron cross.
